The stars come out and the fun begins at Rancho de San Juan. Read how a simple country inn—in the middle of nowhere—became an international establishment of gracious hospitality and gourmet cuisine. Enjoy tales about the famous and not-so-famous guests who stayed with us. Revisit some of the parties and disasters—delight in the romantic, quirky, and uniquely different experiences of being an innkeeper. Discover the interesting, amusing, and sometimes crazy happenings that were part of life at the Rancho. How did we run our country inn? By the seat of our pants, with a dream in our hearts, and a lot of nerve. Some people are born with hospitality in their blood—others learn from experience. And then there are those like us who simply pleasure in the challenge of pampering and entertaining guests. While increasing our knowledge of hospitality, over twenty years in New Mexico, we encountered a learning curve that generated stress, patience, understanding, and the ability to resolve almost any problem with humor and determination. We delighted in the laughter, happiness and surprise of our guests. Now, as a writer, I welcome the opportunity to share these experiences with you. Let the tales begin.

With beautiful photos and witty descriptions, these tales painted a sense of place that made me wish I could reserve now. This breezy book didn't linger on any one event, but together the experiences melded into a fascinating whole. "Tales" highlighted the partner/owners and their harmonious relationship against the often ludicrous actions of their guests. Professionalism and heart in the face of too much or too little water, forgetful and picky guests, quirky regulations, and local threats are what made the Rancho memoir a most enjoyable read.Product details

Tales From a Country Inn The Rancho de San Juan Story D G Heath 9780991144433 Books Reviews
Having spent considerable time at the Rancho de San Juan, I found David's book a vivid rekindling of many fond memories. David clearly captures the essence of this unique spot in the Land of Enchantment. Besides the amusing stories, this book displays the dedication it requires to create a vibrant and successful boutique inn. Their passion for this project is evident on every page. Don't start a business in the hospitality sector without reading this book first!
Wonderful book on their lives as Inn Keepers!!!
This was a stroll down memory lane as we spent many memorable vacations at Rancho de San Juan. Each story is a little jewel. I couldn't put the book down until I'd read every one. David has captured the humor and the charm of this remarkable place.
I stayed at Rancho de San Juan and it brought back great memories. Even if you were not fortunate enough to have stayed at Rancho de San Juan this book is your opportunity to experience this magical place.
Heartwarming tale of two guys who created a very special place by dint of love and hard work. Well written and downright laugh out loud funny in parts.
I purchased this book because I have spent a lot of time in northern New Mexico and I had never heard of this property before so I was curious. I'm sure that the property is beautiful and that Mr. Heath was an excellent host when he and his husband owned and operated the property but that doesn't qualify him as an author. The book has a somewhat snarky tone, many misspelled words and typos and an abundance of stories, most of which have absolutely no point. Fortunately it only took me an hour or so to read it but it was a wasted hour in my opinion. For the first time in my life, a book went straight to the recycle bin after reading.
David Heath has written a beautiful book by assembling a number of charming stories. Bernadette (my wife) and I were married at Rancho de San Juan back in 2005 and also made many separate visits. We enjoyed David's and John's friendship and hospitality, not to mention the charm of the location and the delicious meals John prepared. Although the Inn is no longer open, you can experience a charming visit by reading the book.
